The effects of reflexology are unique to each person. Most people experience a sense of well-being and relaxation, others find it energising and uplifting.
Your bodies response will be individual to you also. Some people respond to reflexology more quickly than others and notice an immediate improvement in their symptoms. Others, with longer term problems and ailments are likely to require more sessions. Most usually notice a difference after 4-6 sessions.
Reflexology promotes the body’s own healing process. It should:
- Boost your circulation
- Balance your energy and emotional system
- Boost your digestive system
- Assist your immune system
To gain the maximum benefits in the 12 hours after treatment, you should:
- Drink plenty of water, as this will help hydrate the body, flush out toxins and improve energy levels.
- Try to rest for the rest of the day as this will help the treatment work to its full potential and will allow your body to begin the balancing/healing process.
- Avoid coffee and alcohol as these stimulants will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Eat a light healthy diet to allow your body to put its energy into healing.
Adverse Effects
For some, reactions are more extreme as your body responds to the treatment. Reflexologists believe this to be the healing crisis as the body starts re-balancing the systems and healing.
A reflexology treatment can therefore produce one or more of the following:
- A temporary worsening of your symptoms
- Feeling tired
- Feeling hot or cold
- Increased urination
- Feeling emotional/tearful
- Skin reaction
- Headaches
- Feeling irritable/restless
- A runny nose
- Increased sweating of hand or feet
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Increased thirst
- Diarrhoea
Any side effects should pass within 24 hours and is a good sign your body is responding to the reflexology treatment and beginning the healing process. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have concerns.
